Scouting is a cause that is very close to our hearts. Those who have read our “About Us” page will know that our founder, James Vella, is a Springbok Scout. Scouting is also an organisation that encourages young people to be out in nature, teaching them to appreciate the environment, and not become cocooned in a life full of technology.
Camp Delta, a Scout campsite located in Delta Park, Johannesburg, has been a beloved and well-used Scouting venue for decades. Over the years, many Cubs, Scouts and Rovers have attended camps and events here, all benefiting from the facilities.
They have always tried to keep the fees very low, to ensure that youth from all backgrounds can enjoy the campsite, as there are Scouts from all over Gauteng that use the grounds. Because of this, as costs increased over the past few years, the fees stayed the same. This means that maintenance on various items has fallen behind, making it unsafe for children to camp there regularly.
Camp Delta is wanting to erect a good fence around the venue, so that the Packs and Troops can once again camp in safety. We believe safety is the most important thing we need to take into account, as a Scouting community. This is the main driving force behind this campaign.
In the event that they manage to raise more money than we need, this will be put into other projects, such as:
– Repairing the leaking roof on the Cub den
– Fixing and renovating the bathrooms
– Renovating the kitchen in the Cub den
